A whole new life was waiting for her. From now on, Isabella was determined to live for herself. She wanted something brighter, something that outshined anything Ethan or Natalie could ever have.
She glanced at the clock. Breakfast time. With a deep breath, Isabella tore herself away from the window and headed downstairs.
The house was quiet, almost peaceful. The staff were already up and working, wiping down tables and sweeping floors. They moved so gently, barely making a sound. Even with several people around, the first floor felt calm and still.
As Isabella reached the bottom of the stairs, the staff greeted her with polite smiles. She smiled back, feeling lighter than she had in days.
“Isabella, you’re up. Breakfast is ready. Would you like to eat now, or wait for Ethan to come down?” Susan asked, coming out from the kitchen with a warm smile.
“Ethan’s not up?” Isabella asked, a little surprised. He was usually out running by now.
“He hasn’t come down yet.”
Isabella paused for a second, then shook her head. “I won’t wait. I’ll eat now.”
After breakfast, she planned to take a walk to help her digest. Then, as soon as it was time, she’d head straight to the registry office. Honestly, she wished she could just fast-forward to that part.
Susan looked like she wanted to say something, but she held back.
When Isabella finished eating, she wandered through the garden for about half an hour. By eight o’clock, she was back inside, ready to get things moving. “Susan, is Ethan up yet?” she called.
“Not yet, Isabella,” Susan answered.
