There was a spark in Deborah’s eyes. “For my son, I have to protect myself. I have to win this fight. It’s life or death, and I can’t afford to go soft, not even a little.” She looked every bit like a general marching off to war.
“Cynthia, I stopped by to see Isabella today, but mostly I wanted to thank you for bringing Jackson and me together. I may not have any shame, but I do know how to pay back a favor. You helped me, so I’ll help you get some payback too.”
“Just wait. Once I marry into the Lane family, I’ll make sure that fake Natalie finally learns her place.”
“Oh, and that shameless Natalie keeps trying to latch onto Ethan. Tell Isabella to keep an eye on him. Don’t let that woman get her hooks in. Jordan doesn’t care if Natalie cheats, he only cares about what he can get out of it. The two of them are perfect for each other. Honestly, they’re the worst couple I’ve ever met.”
Cynthia almost mentioned that Isabella and Ethan were getting divorced, but she held back. That was family business. No need to share it.
“That was all you. I just knew when to step back. I didn’t actually do much.” Cynthia wanted to laugh, but she kept a polite look on her face.
She could already imagine what would happen to the Lane family next. It was their choice, and they’d have to deal with whatever came next.
They talked for ages, mostly Deborah going on and Cynthia listening, adding a few words here and there. Deborah stayed for about an hour before finally leaving.

Natalie had no idea Deborah had visited Isabella in the hospital. She only knew Ethan was back at the Adams Estate, so she went straight there.
She arrived to see Ethan about to leave, holding two insulated food containers.
