“Well, I’ll congratulate you in advance for taking over the family,” Cynthia said, her voice light but meaningful. “Once you’re in charge, you and your son won’t have to worry about them anymore.”
Deborah gave a confident smile. “That’s the plan. As soon as I marry in, I’m taking charge. I’m still young, full of energy, perfectly capable of running things. Natalie’s days of bossing everyone around are over.”
“And the staff at the Lane house, including the butler? I’m replacing every single one of them. They all answer to Natalie right now. That’s going to change.”
Deborah started telling Cynthia about her first run-in with Natalie, and Cynthia listened, clearly enjoying every detail. Natalie had finally met her match. The calm at the Lane house was about to come crashing down. Jackson would soon find out what it really meant to cheat. Deborah’s eyes sparkled with ambition; she wanted everything the Lane family had.
Just wait. She was going to turn that house upside down.
“Jackson still trusts Jordan and Natalie a lot. I guess it makes sense, since Jordan was his only son for thirty years. Jackson was such a good actor. He had all of us fooled.”
Deborah rolled her eyes. “He trusts them now, but who knows how long that’ll last.”
