Julius buried his head in his hands, his expression a mask of misery.
No matter how much his mother disliked Janina, she would never gamble with her grandchildren's lives. He knew exactly how much she cherished those two children.
Just a few months ago, she had even threatened to sue for custody, insisting that the Aurelius children couldn't be left to grow up outside the family. How could she possibly bring herself to harm them?
It was impossible!
Yes. Impossible.
Janina must have said that just to clear her name of harming Yvonne. She was jealous that Yvonne was carrying his child, so she fabricated a fake video to frame her.
At this point, Julius didn't dare to think any deeper.
On one side were his mother and the first love he had always cherished; on the other was the ex-wife he had once, for a brief time, truly loved.
He couldn't bring himself to examine it too closely, afraid that what Janina said was true. He was instinctively recoiling from the fact that Liam and Joy had nearly been poisoned, knowing just how flimsy his self-reassurances were.
Julius was acutely aware that if Janina was telling the truth, then his mother and the woman he loved most had been lying to him all along. Everything he had given, everything he had fought for, would be exposed as a complete joke.
He couldn't accept it.
He wouldn't accept it.
He was terrified of realizing he had harmed an innocent person while protecting the real culprit.
When had his mother started changing toward him? It seemed to have started about a year ago. Her attitude became hot and cold, but he was so busy with work he never had time to consider what was on her mind.
And Yvonne… it felt like she was hiding so much from him. But he had always trusted her. She was such a kind person; she would never do anything to betray him.
But a few days ago, when he saw that intimate video of her and Farmer, he suddenly felt as if he didn't know her at all.
