Elena’s face flushed with anger at Maggie’s words. “You’re an outsider! Stop pointing fingers. This has nothing to do with you!”
Janina watched Elena’s staunch defense, finding her attitude incredibly strange. It was as if Yvonne had some kind of leverage over her, forcing her to be a protector. Otherwise, her behavior was hard to explain.
She looked at Julius, whose face was ashen. The day's objective had been achieved. Yvonne was about to lose Julius's support, and for Yvonne, that was a devastating blow.
Losing a simp like Julius—rich, handsome, and utterly devoted—was like losing a limb.
As for Elena…
Janina still hadn't figured out if there was any connection between Elena and Yvonne beyond their in-law relationship.
For now, it remained a mystery.
Janina gave her friends a look. “Let’s go.”
Without another glance at the trio, Janina and her friends strode toward the elevators.
Julius watched her retreating back, wanting to call out to her, but the sound was trapped in his throat. His heart was too heavy, so heavy it felt like it would drag everything down into an abyss, back to the time before their divorce, a time before Yvonne.
He desperately wanted to ask, “Janina, do you hate me?”
His throat felt as if a hand were clamped around it. Suffocating. Agonizing. Desperate. Heartbroken.
He knew. He had lost the woman who once had eyes only for him.
The big screen was still playing a loop of Yvonne’s scandals.
In that instant, it felt as if a thousand sharp blades were carving chunks of flesh from his heart, the pain tearing through his entire body. It was a searing agony that spread to his very bones.
He truly never imagined that an angel’s face could hide such a demon. A demon that had devoured everything he had and destroyed the person he loved most.
And he never thought he would divorce Janina because of Yvonne.
