Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 462

He thought to himself, *What a drama queen. Who does she think she is? She's public enemy number one, so what's with the high-and-mighty attitude?*

But he kept his tone professional. "Miss Clifford, I understand your feelings. No one likes being attacked online. Our show can not only help you resolve the misunderstanding with your family, but we can also offer you a generous appearance fee."

When Wendy didn't argue, the producer thought she was considering it and pressed on.

"We're giving you a chance to clear your name. Isn't that a good thing? Think about it, Miss Clifford. Your reputation is in tatters. What company will dare to hire you now?"

"If you come on our show with your parents and clear up this misunderstanding, you can win back their love and solve your current crisis. It's a win-win."

"Don't be so quick to refuse. Think carefully. Right now, the public despises you. You could face real-world consequences, like people throwing eggs or paint at you. Our show is offering you a chance to redeem yourself. You should take it."

The producer spoke at length, his throat growing dry. When he was met with silence, he called out, "Miss Clifford, are you still there?"

"Mmm-hmm!"

A couple of grunts came from the other end.

The sound was a bit odd, but the producer didn't think much of it and asked, "Miss Clifford, how about this? I'll personally request an increase in your appearance fee. We can add another two thousand, making it seven thousand in total. If you agree, you can come in to film tomorrow. What do you say?"

"Ah... mmm-hmm..." came the same grunting response.

Suppressing his growing irritation, the producer asked, a little impatiently, "Miss Clifford, are you eating right now?"

The voice sounded muffled and strange, nothing like her sharp tone from earlier.

He figured she must have food in her mouth, which was why her replies were so indistinct.

"Mmm-hmm, mmm-hmm!" This time the sound was slightly different, but still odd.

The producer, undeterred, tried again. "Miss Clifford, could you please say something? I've been talking for a while now, and all you're giving me is 'mmm-hmm.' I can't be sure if you're agreeing or not!"
