But when she heard that breaking the contract would cost thirty million, Wendy froze. She hadn't expected things to get this serious.
Her eyes immediately turned red, her voice choked with emotion.
"You don't have to do this for me. I've already cut ties with my family, so I don't need the money anymore. Please, talk to your friend and cancel the contract. Don't go to Dawnhaven, okay?"
Finch released her, his expression hardening.
"You don't have to feel like you owe me anything. Even if your parents don't need it, we can save the money for our future. Just think of it as my boss giving me an advance on my salary. Shh, don't cry. It breaks my heart."
His words offered no comfort; in fact, they made Wendy feel even more indebted to him.
"Is there any other way? What will I do if you leave? We can earn the money back slowly, but…"
Finch held her tight, showing no intention of letting go. He let out a long sigh, his voice tinged with pain. "Wendy, I can't live without you. How about I talk to my friend and you come with me to Dawnhaven? That way, we can be together forever."
Wendy's body stiffened.
To be honest, she had never considered moving to Dawnhaven.
In Clayborne City, she had a stable job and three of her closest friends. Even without her family, that was enough to build a good life. Dawnhaven was a strange, unfamiliar place. Other than Finch, she would have no one to rely on.
She saw Finch as her life partner, the man she would spend the rest of her days with. Yet, for some reason, her heart resisted the idea of going to Dawnhaven.
