Marjorie gently patted Winnie’s chest, her gesture full of understanding.
But Winnie was too lost in his own emotions to notice her intentions or her subtle movements. The thought of anything romantic or physical hadn't even crossed his mind.
Marjorie, however, was running out of patience. She needed to win him over to move forward with her plan.
Winnie pulled a cigarette from the pack on the table, lit it, and took a satisfying drag.
"You're right. It's the boss's loss for not appreciating me. Hey, Dreamy, sing me a song."
The service at this club was quite impressive. For a steep price, he had secured a private room, complete with an attentive hostess. And this girl… she was quite a looker.
When he saw Marjorie frown, he assumed she disliked the smoke. He quickly stubbed out the cigarette in the ashtray.
"I don't want to sing, handsome. I want…" Marjorie’s hands crept up Winnie’s arms, her eyes filled with a seductive allure.
Winnie finally registered her actions, and a wave of unease washed over him. Surely this wasn't what he thought it was.
"What is it you want?" Winnie asked, forcing a smile.
Marjorie tapped a delicate finger on his chest. "You…"
She drew out the word, her voice a husky whisper that made it impossible not to let one's imagination run wild.
At her words, Winnie’s guard went up instantly.
"I, uh, I don't think that's a good idea." His expression tightened, and he shifted his body away, creating some distance between them.
"Don't come any closer. I'm a man of principle," Winnie said, retreating to the corner of the sofa, his eyes wary.
Marjorie was completely baffled. Was he… rejecting her? How could any man turn her down?
Composing herself, Marjorie let a knowing smile play on her lips. "Oh, so you're afraid of your wife. Come on, what man doesn't have a little fun on the side these days? Don't worry, I won't even charge you. I just… I genuinely like you."
For the sake of her plan, Marjorie had to press on. She trusted in a man’s basic nature; it wasn't that he didn't want to, but that he didn't dare. She just needed to make him a little bolder.
But before she could make another move, Winnie was already on his feet.
"Oh,, you just reminded me! My wife is still waiting for me at home for dinner."
As he spoke, he grabbed his jacket from the sofa and made a beeline for the door.
