Yvonne was exasperated with her mother. All that tough talk for nothing, and she’d almost dragged her down with her.
She pulled the car over.
Yvonne and Silvia got out. There was a 24-hour clinic just down an alley on this street, so they decided to cut through.
They hadn't gone far into the alley when, suddenly, two masked figures rushed out from the entrance, throwing burlap sacks over their heads.
The two figures in black were none other than Janina and Maggie. The opportunity they had been waiting for had finally arrived.
For Janina, especially, the rage that had been building inside her erupted.
She pulled on her gloves and unleashed a furious barrage of punches on Yvonne.
Maggie was just as ruthless with Silvia.
The mother and daughter screamed in pain, begging for mercy, but Janina and Maggie didn't stop.
Maggie was methodical, hitting spots she knew would be excruciatingly painful without leaving any major injuries.
This is for what you did to me, Yvonne! Janina roared in her mind as she struck again and again. She didn't dare speak a word aloud. If they heard her voice, the police would be paying her a visit by morning—if not within the hour.
Yvonne was beaten black and blue, her body wracked with pain.
Janina and Maggie focused their attacks on areas of the body that were less likely to be seen.
The two women’s cries echoed in the alley. “Stop! Please, stop!” Yvonne and Silvia sobbed.
“Officer, you have to catch them! They were monsters!” Silvia cried, her words muffled by her swollen lips.
“It must have been that gang of punks,” she insisted. “They were getting revenge on me.”
Silvia recounted the incident outside the bar, giving the police a new lead to follow.
“Don’t worry, we’ll investigate thoroughly,” an officer assured them. “We’ll notify you of any developments.”
Yvonne was certain it was the thugs. She couldn't believe her terrible luck. Her original plan for the evening was to sleep with Julius and finally marry him. Ever since his divorce from Janina, Julius had thrown himself into his work, ignoring all her hints. He had even claimed that, for the sake of her reputation, they should wait until after they were married to be intimate.
Who cared about that nonsense in this day and age? She was impatient and had decided to force the issue to finally start living the life of a wealthy wife.
Instead, she had ended up beaten, unable to move, and carted off to the hospital in an ambulance.
