What a pathetic leech. A total scumbag.
Yvonne cursed John and his entire family tree in her head. Seeing her cold refusal, John's smile vanished, and his tone turned icy. "If you're going to be like that, don't blame me for what comes next. If you won't give it to me, I'll just go ask Julius. I'm sure he'd be very interested in the little secrets I'm holding onto."
At his threat, Yvonne's head snapped up. She stared at him, wishing she could strangle him right then and there. If Julius found out what she'd done, she couldn't even begin to imagine the consequences. He would hate her. He would leave her.
Their wedding was supposed to have been last month, but a sudden crisis at Julius's company had forced them to postpone it, and he hadn't mentioned it since. She wasn't officially Mrs. Aurelius yet. Julius could not find out about this. Otherwise, everything she had worked for would have been for nothing.
Yvonne's mind raced. She knew John wasn't bluffing. If he couldn't get money from her, he would absolutely go to Julius. But she couldn't stand the thought of giving in. A gambler like him was a bottomless pit. Was she going to be blackmailed by John Grant for the rest of her life?
Suddenly, the image of a face she despised flashed in her mind. Her eyes narrowed, a vicious glint in their depths, as a wicked plan began to form. Her expression shifted rapidly, from gloomy to manic, and finally to calm. Hiding the venom in her eyes, her tone was no longer as cold as before.
"It's not impossible for me to give you the money. But you know as well as I do that nothing in this world is free. You've gotten millions from me already." She paused, then changed her tack. "Do one more thing for me, and we'll officially be in the same boat."
John had been delighted at the prospect of getting more money, but her next words wiped the smile from his face. He knew exactly what this woman was capable of. She might look soft and fragile on the outside, but she was vicious. He remembered the last time; if he hadn't deliberately swerved the car, it would have been three bodies, not one. He wasn't stupid enough to get involved in a murder. If the police caught him, he'd be facing life in prison.
