Just as Yvonne was trying to figure out how to stall John, she heard a voice from down the hall: "Mr. Aurelius!"
Yvonne panicked. Julius was here. What should she do?
Seeing her flustered expression, John was satisfied. He grinned, his smile growing more audacious.
"Scared?"
The footsteps were getting closer. Yvonne's heart raced.
She quickly hissed, "I'll send you the money tonight. Now get out of here, right now."
Yvonne suppressed her panic and forced herself to appear calm.
Ever since she returned, Julius had given her five hundred thousand dollars every month. He also gave her generous cash gifts for holidays, at least ten thousand a pop. He covered all her expenses and gave her access to various membership cards for her leisure. If she had been serious about saving, she could have put away at least five hundred thousand a month. But her mother had taken all her money for 'investments.'
Her mother was right. Money lost its value if it just sat in the bank.
The interest from a bank was too low. The only way to make it grow was to invest. That way, even if she didn't have Julius's support in the future, the money she'd gotten from him would be enough to last a lifetime.
Two hundred thousand wasn't hard for her to come up with. But giving it to John for nothing... it infuriated her.
"Hmph. I'll trust you this one time. If I don't see the transfer by ten o'clock tonight, you know the consequences!" John shot Yvonne a warning glance and then swaggered out of the room.
He ran right into Julius at the door.
Yvonne's heart leaped into her throat, but thankfully, John didn't even spare Julius a glance.
Julius assumed he was another patient or a family member.
