A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 581

Logan was buzzing with anticipation for their new start, and Yvan reached out, checking his forehead as if sensing a fever, "Your support system..."

And me.

But he left those words unspoken, knowing too well that saying them might only earn a scoff of disdain.

He had arrived too late in their lives, far too late to make any promises now.

When Logan heard the news, he couldn't contain his excitement, a fact Matilda picked up on. She noticed the father and son huddling together, whispering about something, and asked, "What are you two chatting about?"

Both froze like kids caught stealing cookies from the jar. After a moment, they turned, trying to change the subject with matching guilty expressions, "Uh... nothing?"

Matilda eyed Logan, "You look like you're hiding something."

"How... how could you say that?"

Logan puffed out his chest, as if to prove a point, then pointed at Yvan, "I... I was just setting Mr. Boyd straight for you!"

Setting Yvan straight for her?

Matilda laughed, "And why would you do that for me?"

"Well... for not understanding you at first, for being so tough on you, I was telling him off!" Logan's eyes darted away, clearly lacking confidence, "Right, Mr. Boyd?"

Caught off guard, Yvan took a moment to catch up, then dryly added, "Yeah, telling off, splendid telling off."

...

At a recent gala for Godfrey, Chloe had bumped into Declan. His fury was palpable when he saw her with Godfrey. Later, seizing a moment when Chloe was alone, he dragged her into the men's restroom and locked the door.

"How could you be so shameless?"

Declan gripped Chloe's neck tightly, "Now that you're with Godfrey, do you think you've made it big?"

Tears welled up in Chloe's eyes, "Let me go!"

Declan couldn't understand his own rage. The woman who used to stand by his side, now glowing beside another man, felt like a betrayal.

So many had coveted Chloe, yet she was his to flaunt. But now? What was his was now someone else's!

His anger wasn't just at Chloe for seemingly moving on so easily; it was also at himself... for caring, for caring far more than he wished to admit.
