Watching Chloe's evasive eyes, Matilda could tell that Declan had been causing trouble for her again. She reached out and gently touched Chloe's face. "It's okay. You've got the courage to move forward now. Don't let Declan hold you back anymore."
"Yeah."
Chloe winked at Matilda. "I've got a secret to tell you. Godfrey and I are together now."
Matilda, along with everyone in the room, including Yvan Cyprian, froze for a few seconds.
Then, realization hit, and the room erupted into screams of surprise!
"What the heck?!"
"Talk about a surprise romance! Oh my god!"
"Out of nowhere! You guys are together!!!"
"You didn't even drop us a hint, Matilda. Were you planning to keep it a secret, huh?"
"Chlo, you and Godfrey are a thing now?!"
The most thrilled was undoubtedly Matilda, her eyes sparkling with joy. "Wow!! I'm so happy for you!"
Finally! Chloe could step out of Declan's shadow! To be with Godfrey, openly holding hands, embracing, kissing, and having someone to care for her – what more could you ask for in a boyfriend? He was practically husband material!
Matilda's eyes welled up with happiness for her best friend. "This is wonderful. Why didn't you tell us? Congratulations to you both."
Chloe blushed. "It was a spur-of-the-moment decision last night… We're still in the trial period, hehe. If anything goes wrong, I'll be on the lookout for a hunkier guy."
Godfrey playfully pinched Chloe's nose. "Dream on. Who could possibly be hunkier than me?"
Chloe pointed at Yvan, standing beside Logan. "There, right in front of you. Although his character is questionable, he's definitely a looker."
Chloe probably didn't know that Declan had been numbing his pain with alcohol every night.
But what good would knowing do? To make Chloe feel pity for Declan through some sort of emotional blackmail?
Yvan had learned from Matilda's situation that some relationships are destroyed by their own hands; no one else is to blame.
It was the same for Declan; Yvan had tried to warn him, but Declan wouldn't listen.
Just as Keaton once tried to stop Yvan from pushing Matilda too far, and now Matilda's lukewarm attitude towards him was his own bitter harvest.
Logan was overjoyed for Chloe, but Yvan remained silent.
He feared, feared that Matilda might find someone like Chloe did, someone who would pamper and care for her. And if that happened… what chances would he have left to start over?
