"Seriously?" Logan pouted, clearly upset. "You're pulling an all-nighter on us!"
"Mom's in Sea City, and it's a long trek back to Whty City. So, how about I come back tomorrow? I didn’t expect to be out this late."
If only I had left earlier, I could have made it back in time to spend the evening with Logan.
But Logan was still huffing with displeasure, "I don’t care. You not coming home tonight is making me worry."
He lectured Matilda like a little grown-up, "It's so dangerous for you to be out there alone. What if something happens and I'm not there to help? Plus, with us being miles apart, I can't even come to keep you company..."
His nagging tone oddly reminded Matilda of Criss when he’s had one too many, and she couldn’t help but laugh, "Alright, alright, my bad. I'll be home tomorrow and make it up to you. How about we go for some hotpot, huh?"
"The hotpot out there can't beat Godfrey’s."
Logan clearly wasn't impressed. "Godfrey’s making me his special beef hotpot tonight. He even brought fresh cuts from the hotel, Kobe beef!"
"Well, aren't you the little traitor, feasting with Godfrey while I'm gone." Matilda teased Logan, "Guess I have a reason not to rush home then, since you guys are having your secret feast."
"I don’t care!"
Logan took her seriously, suddenly getting anxious, "You being in Sea City really worries me!"
What’s in Sea City that has him so worked up?
Matilda tried to console her son through the screen, "Mom’s not a kid anymore, I know what I’m doing..."
Matilda’s nose tingled with emotion, "You little rascal, making your mom out to be so helpless. I've weathered plenty of storms, you know."
"If you don’t want me to keep nagging, then hurry back first thing tomorrow." Logan peered through the camera at Matilda, "Get some sleep, and say hi to Criss for me. Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
Matilda smiled softly as she ended the video, then lay on her bed, thinking over the warning she got from Logan and Criss.
It was as if they had conspired to remind her not to repeat her past mistakes.
Matilda smirked, her heart tender. After everything, there was no way she'd hold onto any hope for Yvan again.
