What did she see in his eyes back then?
Pain, confusion. She couldn't grasp why Yvan would treat her this way, couldn't understand herself… She just loved him, so why endure such insults?
Even the custom-made keychain she treasured… ended up in such a predicament.
What Yvan didn't know was that night, Matilda had gone out, plunging into the pond in the dead of night, her body instantly drenched by the cold water.
Shivering, yet undeterred, she desperately searched for those two keychains, as if finding them… finding them would give her the strength to keep going…
Yvan couldn't possibly imagine Matilda braving the cold and heartbreak, searching for those tiny keys in the man-made pond. It must have been agonizing, she must have felt despair over and over again.
—Transported through a barrage of memories, those keys now lay in Yvan's palm, worn at the edges from the passage of time, yet the two keychains remained together, a complete heart dangling beneath them.
Yvan had always been in the dark, never knowing Matilda had actually retrieved the keychains and… kept them close all these years.
After finding them, she silently took them back, never telling Yvan, probably fearing he'd throw them out the window once again.
Staring at the keychain, Yvan suddenly felt a lump in his throat.
The memories he had once discarded were now torturing him, revealing how many moments they had shared, yet at the time… he never thought to cherish them.
Adrian, noticing Yvan lost in thought over the keychain, then watched as the man pocketed it, claiming ownership as if it belonged to him.
But what's the point of all that reminiscing?
It's just the regret of someone unable to let go.
...
After dropping Criss back at his hotel, and considering the inconvenience of returning to Whyt City at that hour, Matilda simply booked the room next to his. Once settled, she immediately video-called Logan.
The call was answered in seconds, and she saw her son sitting on the bed, blinking at her, “Mommy, why aren’t you home yet?”
“Sorry, Logan, mommy might not make it back tonight. Is Godfrey around?”
