A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 482

Matilda never expected Yvan to show up, her brows furrowing in surprise and annoyance. "What are you doing here?"

Life had been on an upturn for her, with her name cleared and things finally falling into place. She had enjoyed a brief Yvan-free period, and now, out of the blue, he was back.

Yvan, used to Matilda's cold shoulder, acted as if he didn't notice her hostility. "Came to see Chloe," he said, a fruit basket in his hands as a peace offering.

Matilda remained on guard. "You're here to see Chloe? That's like a fox offering to guard the henhouse. Up to no good!"

"Why do you have to say things that hurt?" Yvan replied, trying to mask the pain in his voice.

Matilda hesitated, noticing for the first time that Yvan was dressed casually in a jacket and slacks, looking like he genuinely came just to visit Chloe.

Why was she so eager to keep Yvan away from Chloe?

Thinking it over, she realized Yvan hadn't actually done anything to harm Chloe.

After giving Yvan a once-over, Matilda relented, "Fine, I'll take you to her. But if you dare bring up Declan..."

"I won't mention him," Yvan quickly assured her. Declan's actions had disappointed him too, despite their friendship.

Chloe was strong-willed, able to take a hit and still smile back. Declan must have done something unforgivable to hurt her like that.

Yvan's visit was for Matilda's sake. Chloe was her close friend, and he wanted to show his concern.

Upon entering, Chloe was visibly shocked to see Yvan, and so was Godfrey who was with her.

Both of them had no personal issues with Yvan, but his close association with Declan made them wary. Seeing him step into the room, Chloe croaked in surprise, "You... you?!"

Yvan placed the fruit basket beside her bed.

Matilda, standing outside the room, overheard passing nurses chattering.

"Did you just see Mr. Boyd from Sea City go in there? The people in that room are all high-profile, huh!"

"Wow, does that mean the rumors are true?"

"What rumors?"

"About that girl in the VIP room. They said because of her complicated condition and the lack of available doctors late at night, no one dared to take her case. I heard Mr. Boyd personally called some top surgeons from the city hospital next door to come over and help..."

"Seriously?"

Hearing this, Matilda froze on the spot.
