Yvan? Could Yvan really have done something like this?
Matilda felt a chill run through her heart, afraid to ponder any further. Then, she heard Yvan stepping out, the man merely glanced at her as he passed by the doorway, and then continued on his way out.
After making sure the hospital room door was securely closed, Matilda hurried to catch up with Yvan's steps. "Yvan."
Her full address caught him off guard, stirring a flood of memories within him.
Yvan stopped and turned to face Matilda, their gazes locking in the empty corridor.
"Chloe... When Chloe was in critical condition at the hospital, were you the one who... arranged for someone to help?"
Yvan was taken aback that Matilda knew about this but indirectly admitted it anyway. "Who told you?"
"It doesn’t matter who told me." Matilda clenched her fists, looking straight at Yvan. "Why did you do it?"
Was he... expecting her to thank him?
Yvan, observing Matilda's complex expression, suddenly let out a laugh, tinged with a hint of... sorrow.
"Matilda, you don’t have to be so guarded around me. I won’t hurt you again." Yvan’s voice was indifferent, the same tone as always, but upon closer listening... it carried a hint of restraint.
"I just wanted to lend a hand, it involved you, so I stepped in. That’s all." Yvan’s voice softened, "You don’t have to remember what I did. Consider it me paying off a debt, for my own peace of mind."
Matilda remained silent.
The silence between them wasn't long. Matilda finally spoke, her voice cold, "Thank you for your help. I’ll thank you on Chloe’s behalf."
Matilda glanced at Adrian, then sat down confidently in front of him and Eugene. Adrian narrowed his eyes, "You’ve changed."
Matilda responded coolly, "Heaven and hell are just a thought away. I’ve been through enough, so I’ve come to terms with it."
"Congratulations on clearing your name," Adrian brought up the topic, seemingly of his own accord. "I’ve been busy, didn’t get the chance to talk to you about it."
"Thank you." Matilda accepted gracefully, after all, it was her innocence to claim. There was no need for pretense.
"As we’ve caught up, how about we discuss business?" Eugene smiled, ordering several desserts that Matilda loved. He engaged in conversation with Adrian while Matilda quietly enjoyed her desserts.
Adrian couldn’t help but laugh more joyfully, "Mr. Eugene really spoils her."
