Charles answered, "Yeah."
"You don't have feelings for her, do you? You've been in the same group for days. When the show airs, people might start spreading rumors about you two," Charles' manager said, frowning.
Hearing the word "rumors," Charles didn't seem bothered. Instead, he calmly replied, "The show is about farming, cooking, and completing tasks. What kind of rumors could possibly come out of that?"
"True. It's not the kind of show that generates gossip. But I heard from a friend that she's caught Warwick's eye.
"With her looks, she had opportunities to play important roles in the past couple of years, maybe even access some good resources, but Warwick used his connections to hold her back.
"It's obvious—he wants to make her feel like there's no way forward so he can swoop in and keep her as his mistress," the manager whispered.
The more he thought about it, the luckier he felt to manage someone like Charles. Some people speculated privately that Charles secretly had a lover, questioning why there was never any news about him dating.
But he knew better—Charles was only interested in his career and had no time for anything messy. Managing an artist like him was a breeze.
"Warwick?" Charles frowned upon hearing the name.
Warwick was three to four years younger than Charles but rose to fame earlier. However, Warwick's recent works hadn't been as successful.
The two rarely crossed paths, except for one project where Charles was the lead and Warwick the supporting actor.
Warwick had tried to spin the narrative, promoting the film as having two male leads. Uninformed audiences were misled, thinking it was a dual-lead production, but the director and producers were clear on who the actual lead was.
Charles went on to win a Best Actor award for that film, while Warwick didn't even get a nomination. That didn't mean Warwick lacked talent—his acting was, in fact, quite good.
Just then, the manager took a phone call.
After hanging up, his expression turned serious as he said, "Thelma just terminated her contract with her company. Warwick paid the penalty fee for her.
"Looks like she couldn't hold out any longer. We probably won't see her in the industry again—it's a shame she ended up with Warwick."
Charles' expression darkened.
