Sophie kept her cool, not a trace of panic on her face. James's moves were all too familiar, nothing she hadn't anticipated.
"Big news? Who says we're short of that?" Sophie quipped. "News thrives on sensationalism, on who drops the juiciest scoop. And trust me, we've got an ace up our sleeve."
"Ace? Who might that be?" Jenna asked, just as Angelo's voice rang out from the hallway: "Who else but me?"
Jenna spun around, startled to find Angelo had slipped in unnoticed. Adler chimed in, "Mr. Angelo, what brings you here?"
"Here to lend Sophie a hand, of course!" Angelo replied with a flourish, snapping his fingers as a procession of reporters from Emerging News filed in, all part of Angelo's extensive network.
Among them were retired super paparazzi, the kind who'd broken some of the industry's biggest stories, and former magazine editors who'd set sales records. This was the crème de la crème of journalism, armed with top-tier resources.
Angelo confidently declared, "Each of these folks is a heavyweight in journalism, not someone you can just call up. Now that they're here, I bet every other reporter in town will flock over."
Jenna and Adler couldn't help but give Angelo a nod of approval. In Devonport, pulling off something like this was Angelo's specialty.
Just then, Sandy strolled in, carrying herself with the assurance of someone who knew her turf. "The Pollard family rules the overseas scene. Digging up dirt on Claire? Easy peasy. Here's everything I dug up on her."
Sandy laid the stack of documents before Jenna and Adler. Jenna was taken aback, "How did you get all this so quickly?"
