After a brief silence, Zivon stepped in and asked, “Indeed. What did you mean by, ‘sister?’”
The presence of the oppressive man only served to add pressure on Xavia. Not even daring to look Zivon in the eye, she eventually cleared her throat before replying, “…W-well… You see… Yulia’s my brother’s daughter, right…? And since Maison is my sister’s son… They’re considered to be nominal siblings! At least by the customs in my hometown, their marriage will be frowned upon…!”
Though Xavia thought that her excuse was reasonable enough, Maison and Zivon still ended up frowning slightly. Was that really the case…?
“…Huh…? What are you talking about, Mommy…? Am I not your child…?” asked Yulia, prompting the corner of Xavia’s mouth to twitch. D*mn it, she had never properly explained this complicated matter to Yulia!
Unfortunately, now that she was in front of Zivon and Maison, she had no other choice but to say, “…I… was afraid that you’d be upset to hear this, so I’ve held back from telling you about this all this time… Even so, please don’t overthink things, Yulia… Mommy will always see you as my blood daughter…”
While Xavia figured that this would avoid any further suspicion from the two, she hadn’t anticipated just how hurt Yulia would feel!
“So… You’re not my real mommy…? I really am just a wild child without parents…! To think you’re not my real mommy when I liked you so much…!” wailed the child—who seemed to register Xavia’s implications—extremely miserably. She simply couldn’t accept the fact that the beautiful Xavia wasn’t her mother!
Yulia, for one, had already seen what her uncle and auntie looked like. Both of them were ugly, and Dolly had even told her that they used to bully her mother! To think that Yulia was actually their daughter…! Simply thinking about it made Yulia cry harder and harder, leaving Xavia heartbroken. After all, there was nothing more saddening than being unable to acknowledge one’s child…
Eventually, Xavia gave Yulia a tight hug before saying, “Please don’t cry anymore… Be a good girl… Mommy’s going to bring you home now…”
“No! I don’t want to go home with you! Bring me back to my real home! I don’t want you anymore!” yelled the sobbing Yulia, prompting Xavia to go silent.
