“…It’s true. Essentially, I received a call from Cara yesterday, stating that she was in trouble. Though I immediately rushed over, I soon found out that she had used me as a betting chip to gamble! What more, she promised Mike that if she were to lose to him, I had to spend the night with that man! Naturally, I refused. As I attempted to escape, I tried to wrangle my hand free from one of his subordinates… Unfortunately, I ended up…” muttered Xavia truthfully.
“I… I really didn’t mean to do it… I was just thinking about escaping and it really was out of self-defense…! Since I’ve helped you so much, could you lend me a hand this time, sister…? Can you get me a good lawyer to help clear my charges so I can be released…?” asked the helpless Xavia who was clearly placing all her hope in Jenna.
Unbeknownst to her, the person before her wasn’t her benefactor. Instead, she was the culprit behind all this!
Whatever the case was, Jenna then held onto Jenna’s wrist before reassuring in a soft voice, “It’s alright, there’s no need to be anxious… I’ll definitely help you regardless of what you’ve done… That said, though you claim that it was self-defense, there is still a criminal liability for manslaughter… With that in mind, even if I get you a good lawyer, the most they can do is reduce your sentence…”
…So Jenna was saying that Xavia had to go to prison no matter what? Now feeling much more afraid, the desperate Xavia began shedding tears as she whimpered, “I… I don’t want to go to prison… I fear the darkness inside… and I’m worried about Yulia…”
Hah. If she didn’t go to prison, then Xavia would simply continue parading herself before Zivon!
Though Jenna was sneering at Xavia in her heart, she had a gentle façade on her face as she replied, “Please don’t cry… Don’t worry, I’ll definitely find someone to take good care of Yulia. I won’t allow her to find out about this matter either. Now stop crying and make sure to live well in prison as I contact a lawyer to ask about the details… That aside, I’ll be doing all this discreetly, and I’ll try not to have a trial for you. After all, doing otherwise would surely be bad for you and Yulia’s reputation…”
Due to Xavia’s fear and desperation, she wasn’t able to see through Jenna’s bluff, resulting in her tearing up even more as she said, “Thank you… I… I’m truly sorry for all that’s happened before… If I ever get out of this, I’ll surely take Yulia far away with me… We’ll leave Darlsbury and we’ll never appear before you and Young Master Burton again…”
Jenna, however, wasn’t about to believe her again. With that, she smiled faintly while replying, “Silly girl… What’s the point of telling me this now? Regardless, things will be fine…”
“Time’s up,” said a gruff voice out of the blue, signifying the end of the conversation. Time really did pass faster during moments of crisis…
