After a brief pause, she calmly replied, “It’s not like I want to, but you should know that one lie leads to another. Allow me to remind you of your high authoritative position, Young Master Keith. If things were to get serious, there’ll surely be severe consequences… With that in mind, rather than dealing with the media now, we should instead be taking our time to resolve this matter.”
…What an intelligent girl… Keith, for one, had never met someone as level-minded as Xavia. Regardless, he quickly said, “…While the solution is to resolve this matter, since the news has just passed, it’ll only lead to further speculations if we don’t handle this properly. How about this? We start thinking of countermeasures after tomorrow. What do you say?”
This made Xavia go silent for a while. After all, who knew what would become of the situation by then? Still, it was true that everyone had been focusing on both her and Keith recently, to the point where she received constant comments and messages about it on Facebook. If she didn’t make an appearance at tomorrow’s big occasion, there was a chance that things would get much more difficult to deal with…
Xavia’s train of thought was cut short when Heather walked over before asking in a polite tone, “Oh? Keith? Are you here to meet Xavia?”
Before Keith could reply, Heather pulled Xavia to the side before whispering, “You’d best lay low throughout during this period of time. If you cause any further news to get published, the Lockharts won’t be able to handle it. Naturally, you’ll be unable to deal with the consequences either. That aside, Keith is a good person and it’ll be fortunate for you if you manage to get married to him. Get along with him if you can.”
Though she made it sound like she wanted what was best for Xavia, Heather was only hoping the Xavia would get into Keith’s good books so that the Lockharts could move to a higher level.
Xavia herself had no intentions of arguing with Heather. She had lost all feelings for that woman when she slapped her that day. With that in mind, she replied in a monotonous tone, “I know.”
“Let’s go, Keith,” added Xavia as she turned to look at the man, prompting Heather to smile. Looks like Xavia finally learned how to be obedient.
Still, if Xavia truly ended up marrying Keith—thus granting her access to a wealthy and reputable family—, Heather found no harm in finally acknowledging Xavia as her daughter.
Unbeknownst to her, Xavia was only leaving with Keith since she had already been contemplating it earlier. Aside from that, she really didn’t want to see Heather. The fact that Xavia didn’t have anything to say to that woman made it more hurtful compared to having an argument with her…
