As all this was happening, Dolly loaded the final equipment needed for Zivon’s treatment into Zayne’s car. Though she had intended to sit in the back, she didn’t exactly want Zayne to misunderstand that action. With that in mind, she ultimately opted to sit in front instead.
Alas, it was still slightly awkward, so she ended up checking her phone… only to be greeted by the sight of an article stating that the Lockharts had officially filed for bankruptcy. As it turned out, the Lockhart Group had initially collaborated with several foreign investors back when Jenna was still liked, and though things went smoothly for a while, everything crumbled after Jenna’s death and scandals went international.
One thing led to another, and in the end, the bankruptcy happened… Come to think of it, she only ever saw Kevin at night back when they were still married… He must have had a lot on his plate because of this fiasco, huh…? Actually, hadn’t Mr. and Mrs. Lockhart attempted to get James and Jacob back just to maintain their status quo too? Those two were truly the scum of the universe!
Then again, it wasn’t like this was news to her. After all, they had treated Xavia terribly, so this was all well-deserved karma. What a pity that Kevin was born in that family… Truth be told, he wasn’t all that bad…
As all this played in Dolly’s mind, Zayne himself was struggling to find a proper conversation topic. Wasn’t he an expert at cracking jokes? Why was it so hard just to speak to her?! Feeling helpless, he waited till they stopped at a red light before glancing at her phone… and it was then that he realized what she had been reading.
So… She still couldn’t let go of Kevin, huh? Irked by that thought, Zayne couldn’t help but say, “…You know, if you told Xavia to lend you a hundred million dollars, then maybe Kevin would consider remarrying you.”
Putting her phone aside, Dolly scoffed, “As if I’d want to help someone who almost killed Xavia back then! Xavia may be a saint, but I’m not!”
“…Is that so? Then why have you looked so sullen ever since your divorce? Besides, you kept on waiting for him to meet you for several days before finally giving up, so I didn’t think doing such a stupid thing was above you.”
“Mock me all you want, but I’m never going back to him. If you’re saying all this because of this article I’m reading, just know that it was the first one that popped up on my feed,” replied Dolly who genuinely meant what she had said. She had done her part in that marriage, and since he refused to do his, then what was the point in pursuing it? What was done was done.
