The waiter’s hands trembled as he said, “My girlfriend called me. The hotel was very noisy, and I was worried that I would not be able to hear her, so I went to the remote back garden to answer the phone call. I saw that there were clothes in the water so I decided to jump in and save the person. It was then that I realized that it was Miss Lockhart. I told the manager about it immediately and was told to come and look for all of you.”

Mr. Lockhart frowned as he asked, “What was Jenna’s condition when you rescued her? Did you see anyone suspicious before or after that? What about the surveillance cameras? Who was the one who pushed Jenna into the water?”

The waiter quickly shook his head. “No. After I rescued Miss Lockhart, she was completely unresponsive regardless of all the first aid measures that I performed on her. It seemed as though she had been in the lake for some time.”

The waiter looked down regretfully. “I was very anxious at that time and did not notice if there was anyone else around. That area in the back garden was designed exclusively for couples to fool around in, so no surveillance cameras are installed there.”

In other words, they would not be able to find the cause for her fall, or the murderer!

Mrs. Lockhart’s face turned ashen. Suddenly, her eyes widened and she strode towards Xavia.

She seemed to have come to the conclusion that Xavia was the murderer.

Mr. Lockhart also stepped forward and asked seriously, “Xavia, you can receive a lighter sentence if you admit it now. You'd better explain how you tried to commit the murder before you surrender on your own. We are still related by blood, after all, and we do not want things to get completely out of hand.”
