Smiling at Wendy, she then said, “Though Jenna is her sister, that’s all in the past, especially since she’s already divorced Young Master Burton. That aside, had I known that Miss Squire was planning to cause trouble, I wouldn’t have brought her along with me…”
Wendy, for one, had been up to date with the news, so she knew that the woman talking to her was the same person who had abandoned Xavia back then for superstitious reasons. As such, she didn’t have a good impression of this person… but for Xavia’s sake, Wendy replied, “I suppose… Either way, I’m feeling a bit weary so I’ll head upstairs first. Oh, and Xavia? Don’t feel bad… Those were just a bunch of frogs living within a well…”
Though Wendy hadn’t welcomed Mr. and Mrs. Lockhart with enthusiasm, nobody could say that she wasn’t polite, and Mrs. Lockhart was left feeling extremely awkward. After hearing that Wendy was inviting her friends and family from her village over, she had rushed over just to get closer to that woman. This was a particularly prime opportunity since she was sure that Xavia wouldn’t embarrass her before so many people!
Alas, with how things had ended… Shaking her head, Mrs. Lockhart was quick to say, “…Indeed, Xavia… Don’t take them to heart. Your father and I will be sure to support you!”
…Oh, so now they knew how to care for her? Unfazed by their efforts to cover up their past mistakes, she simply scoffed, “I’m tired. Please leave.”
Naturally, this irked Mrs. Lockhart. They were here to visit her, so how could she do this to them! Thankfully, before she was able to retort, Francis placed his hand on her shoulder and replied, “Our girl is tired, so let’s not disturb her any further. Also, feel free to contact us if you ever need help with anything, Xavia.”
After the two had closed the door behind them, the displeased Mrs. Lockhart immediately grumbled, “Why did you stop me? That girl was clearly dissing us off!”
“Did you not see how cold Young Master Burton’s expression was? Had I allowed you to say what you wanted, I fear we may have lost our lives!”
“…Damn it! It’s all Fiona and those unruly people’s fault!”
“And who are you calling unruly!” retorted an angry voice right after Mrs. Lockhart had said that.
