Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 173

At this point, Vianne still had the nerve to turn things around and put the blame on Silvia.

Silvia couldn’t help but feel a grudging respect—there really were people in this world with skin as thick as armor.

And, come to think of it, Shipley wasn’t much better.

In some twisted way, the two of them actually did make quite the pair.

“Why would I ever want to ruin your relationship?” Silvia curled her lips into a mocking smile, her eyes glinting with irony. “On the contrary, watching you two wallow together is something I’d love to announce to the world.”

“Sweet Silvia,” Shipley’s tone softened, and he put on that ever-gracious, polished demeanor, his gaze settling on her with an increasingly obvious smile. “These people—they used to work for you, didn’t they? I have no objection if they want to follow you now. As long as you’re happy, I’ll let it go, little sister.”

Silvia couldn’t be bothered with him. She glanced at the staff still lingering awkwardly nearby and urged, “Well? Don’t just stand there. Come in already.”

They hurried past Shipley and slipped into Silvia’s company.

Seeing this, Silvia turned without another glance at Shipley. She stepped inside, closed the door firmly behind her, and shut him out completely.

This was an office building, home to several companies, and Silvia had no intention of airing their drama in public. She didn’t want to argue with Shipley in front of an audience—how embarrassing would that be?

Out in the hallway, Shipley watched Silvia’s retreating figure until she disappeared from view. He couldn’t help but laugh, the sound soft and pleasant.

“Vianne, I don’t need you meddling in my business.”

Vianne stood beside him, now composed, though tears still clung to her cheeks. She looked at Shipley, lips trembling, her whole face a portrait of wounded devotion. “Shipley, you know everything I do is for you. Those people—when they came to me to resign, all they could talk about was how wonderful Silvia was. Between the lines, they were criticizing you. I just got upset, that’s all…”

What she wanted Shipley to understand was that, even if she’d overreacted, it was all because she loved him and wanted to protect him.

It was affection—loyalty—that made her want to fire those people on the spot.
