Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 249

“She said all that in front of everyone—told them you can’t do anything right, that without her, you couldn't keep the company running for a single day!”

Vianne could feel it instantly: as soon as she spoke, Shipley’s whole body went rigid, as if something inside him had snapped.

Emboldened, she pressed on, her voice rising until she was practically shouting.

“That’s enough!”

Suddenly, Shipley cut her off with a low, sharp command, signaling her to be quiet.

He turned, his cold gaze fixed on Vianne, irritation flickering in his eyes. “Have you said enough?”

The warmth usually dancing in Shipley’s eyes had vanished, leaving only a dark, forbidding storm behind.

Vianne had never seen him like this. Fear crept into her chest before she could help it.

She shrank back, blinking rapidly, her pupils contracting in alarm. For a moment, she was so frightened she even forgot to cry.

She stared at Shipley, stunned, biting her lip. “Shipley, what’s wrong with you? This isn’t us. You used to say you loved me most—how could you…”

Shipley’s mouth twisted into a bitter, almost mocking smile.

He stared right back at her, a glint of derision in his eyes.

But after a moment, he smoothed his expression, forcing a smile. “Vianne, I’m sorry. I’m not feeling well right now. My mood’s all over the place, so try not to take it to heart.”

He said the words gently enough, but his eyes were ice cold.

Vianne didn’t notice the chill at all; she just gazed at him, searching his face.
