Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 104

Before Kent got married, his life was a revolving door of women—flirtations and fleeting romances were simply part of his past.

But now that he and Silvia were officially husband and wife, things had to change. He couldn’t let other women make a scene or flaunt their presence, especially on important occasions like their engagement party. Anyone bold enough to stir up trouble at such a crucial event shouldn’t be allowed to appear again.

Silvia’s family was there to stand by her side, unwavering in their support.

As Garth spoke, Kent pressed his lips together, silent for a moment.

He’d known before walking into this house that the Ashford family would bring up the subject. He’d prepared his answer in advance, but now, standing in front of Garth, his rehearsed words suddenly felt hollow—like empty formalities that would only make things worse.

So instead, Kent decided to speak from the heart. “Dad, I promise I’ll handle this. In my life, Silvia is my one and only wife. She’ll always come first, no matter what.”

Come first?

Garth’s mouth twisted into a faint, sardonic smile. There was a hint of amusement in his eyes, edged with skepticism. “If she’s really your top priority, then why did you abandon her at the engagement party and leave with that other woman?”

“The situation took me by surprise. If I hadn’t left with her, things would’ve gotten even uglier,” Kent replied, pausing for a moment. “But I admit, not stopping that woman from showing up at the party was my mistake. It won’t happen again.”

“And the wedding?” Garth asked, his tone gentler but still firm. He knew everyone had their secrets, and as long as Kent gave his word, Garth wouldn’t press further. But some things needed to be made clear. “Silvia is pure-hearted. She’s willing to settle for just a marriage certificate to be with you, but our family cannot accept that.”

A wedding was the most important rite of passage in a woman’s life. If Kent couldn’t give Silvia that dignity, Garth would never support their marriage.
