When My Ex's Worst Enemy Became My Sanctuary novel Chapter 350

"Hey Mamie, did you hear about the elevator breaking down this morning? You get in early, right? You didn’t get stuck, did you?"

Mamie nodded. "Yeah, I did. Got caught right in the middle of it."

"No way!" The HR girl stared, wide-eyed. "So you’re the poor soul everyone in the lobby was talking about?!"

Mamie gave a weak smile.

Honestly, her luck was just the worst.

But at the same time, she felt oddly lucky too.

Unlucky because she’d nearly died in that stupid elevator. Lucky because, out of nowhere, every piece of her memory had snapped back into place.

Mamie couldn’t even tell if she wanted to laugh or cry.

The HR manager showed up as soon as he heard about what happened. "Mamie, do you want to take the rest of the day off? I’ll talk to Dorothea and mark it as sick leave if you want."

He looked genuinely concerned. He knew how messy things could get if someone had an accident at work.

Mamie paused to think, then shook her head. "I’m alright, really. I know what I can handle."

She honestly had no idea what she’d even do at home. Sitting around just thinking about everything? No thanks. She’d rather stay at the office and get her head straight.

It didn’t help that the man she’d hurt in the past was now her husband. Every time she thought about going home to Scott, her mind just froze.

She wasn’t ready to tell him about getting her memories back. Not yet. After a whole morning of overthinking it, Mamie decided to just keep pretending she didn’t remember.

Dorothea found out about the elevator fiasco from the company group chat and immediately called her.

"Mamie, are you okay? I heard you got stuck in the elevator this morning! Why didn’t you just go home? Do you want me to come pick you up so you can get some rest?"

Dorothea’s anxious worry actually made Mamie feel a little warm inside.

"I’m really fine, Dorothea, I promise. Don’t worry about me."

Dorothea tried to talk her into going home a few more times, but Mamie stood her ground, and eventually she dropped it.

While Dorothea was still on the phone, Latham hadn't left yet.

"What’s going on with Mamie?"

Dorothea filled him in. Latham’s eyes sparkled as he pulled out his phone, already scheming.
