For some reason, letting her do things her way just felt right to him.
“Oh, by the way, this place must have cost a fortune. I should pay you back…”
“It’s okay. After Christopher was gone, the Watson family is a mess. It’ll be a while before you can officially come back, so just think of this as a welcome gesture from my father.”
As he spoke, Jonah reached into his pocket and pulled out a Porsche key. It was for the car he drove here today.
“I didn’t have time to get you anything else, so take this as a little welcome from me. Since you’re divorcing Brody, it doesn’t feel right for you to keep driving his car.”
Nelly just stared in disbelief. Was this how rich families did things? A new apartment and a luxury car, both considered just a small gift?
Her cheeks turned pink. She was about to turn him down, but Jonah gently picked up her hand and pressed the key into her palm.
“This is really too much…”
“Between family, it’s nothing.”
His words caught her off guard, making her eyes sting. She quickly turned away, trying to play it cool. “Right… I guess you’re right. The Watsons do have money to burn. I’m just being too polite.”
Jonah’s lips twitched as he watched her slender figure. He couldn’t help but feel a strange, protective urge.
Since Jonah had helped her out all day, Nelly ordered some groceries on her phone and invited him to stay for dinner.
Jonah didn’t usually eat dinner, but with the way Nelly looked at him, he couldn’t say no.
Nelly was in a great mood, humming to herself as she moved around the kitchen. She didn’t feel tired at all. For a moment, she almost forgot she was about to get divorced.
Meanwhile, Brody had just finished a long day. As he left the conference room, a wave of dizziness washed over him.
Alan had been waiting outside for a while. As soon as he saw Brody, he rushed over, looking worried. “Sir, I have something important to tell you…”
Suddenly, Brody’s phone started buzzing. It was Carrie. He picked up right away, and his daughter’s small, teary voice came through. “Daddy, do you not want me anymore?”
