Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 660

The car glided along the road, quiet and steady.

After a stretch of silence, Madeline spoke. “When are you going back to the city?”

She hadn’t asked about them, only about him.

Julian gave her a sideways glance. “So you want to stay here? You’re not coming home with me?”

Madeline’s hands tightened in her lap. She did want to stay, to be close to her mother for a while longer. But when he mentioned home, her heart gave a tiny flutter. That home held her two little boys. She couldn’t stand the thought of being away from them for too long.

She often thought about bringing the kids here, letting them stay with her at the Ballard estate. Her mother hadn’t even met her grandsons yet. Still, just the thought of Christian’s temper made her hesitate. He was already furious with Julian for bringing the boys out here. If she dared move Noah and Oliver into the Ballard house—a place Christian hated—he’d probably show up ready to start a war if it meant getting his grandsons back.

She didn’t want to stir up more trouble. The whole thing left her feeling drained.

She let out a sigh. “I don’t know. Let’s talk about it later. I haven’t decided yet.”

“If you want to stay, I’ll bring the kids here,” Julian offered.

She looked at him, surprised. He was being unusually agreeable lately. Not long ago, he would never have offered that. Madeline’s lips curved up into a small, weary smile, and she shook her head.

“If we did that, Christian would probably lose his mind.” She really wasn’t exaggerating. Christian could show up and take the kids away by force if he wanted to.

Julian watched her. “Are you still afraid of him?”

“I’m just worried everything would get more complicated.”

“If it’s what you want, I’ll handle Christian.” He squeezed her hand reassuringly.

She leaned against his arm, closing her eyes for a moment. “Things have only just settled down. Maybe let’s leave it for now. By the way, what do you plan to do about Claire?”

Julian looked down at her, his gaze gentle. “She still has her uses. Don’t stress about it. You just focus on getting better.” He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.
