Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 659

Miles hurried to catch up with Christian, seeing how the old man’s anger made him stumble. He reached out to steady him.

Christian jerked away.

Miles tried again.

Christian glared at him, eyes sharp with warning.

Miles dropped his head, looking all apologetic.

Julian turned his attention back to Madeline. She was already facing him, her gaze searching for reassurance.

He crossed the small distance between them and gently took her hand, his touch warm against her chilled fingers.

From the side, Claire let out a mocking, bitter laugh. “Madeline, do you even realize it? You’re blind. You’ll be blind forever.”

Her laughter grew wild, almost manic. She’d lost everything, so pain was all she had left to give. Watching them suffer seemed to bring her joy now.

Madeline’s hand clenched tighter around Julian’s.

Julian leaned in, voice low and soothing. “Don’t listen to her.”

But Claire kept going, her voice ringing out. “You still don’t get it, do you? You’re blind, Madeline. Forever...forever…”

Julian’s expression hardened. “Get her out of here.”

Two men quickly stepped forward, grabbing Claire by the arms and dragging her away.

Even as she was hauled off, Claire kept shouting, her voice echoing down the hall. “You’ll always be a blind woman, a cripple! I may have lost, but you didn’t win—”

A guard covered Claire’s mouth and hustled her away.

All color seemed to drain from Madeline’s face.

Julian gripped her shoulders gently. “Don’t. Don’t let her get to you. She’s lying. The doctors said you’ll recover.”

Madeline felt as if the ground beneath her was slipping away. Still, she forced her features back to calm and nodded quietly. “Okay.”

Shelly stepped beside her, voice soft and comforting. “Madeline, you’re still not well. You shouldn’t be on your feet so long. Why don’t you let us handle things here? Go get some rest.”
