Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 643

Shelly gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “Let someone else handle it. You just need to rest.”

“But, Mom, I really wanted to organize the banquet for you myself. It’s the only way I know to show you how much you mean to me.” Her eyes shimmered with tears, disappointment settling heavy in her voice.

Shelly stayed calm, her expression gentle but firm. “You’ve already shown me how much you care. Don’t push yourself too hard. Get some rest. I promise, the banquet will go ahead tomorrow, just as planned.”

With Shelly insisting, Claire had no choice but to nod. “Okay... Thank you, Mom. I think I should try to get a bit more sleep.”

“Good. You rest. We’ll step out for now.”

Once Shelly and the doctor had stepped out, Claire grabbed her phone right away. She scrolled through her call log, searching for any missed calls from Carter.

Nothing. Relief rushed through her when she realized no one had tried to reach her while she’d been out.

She quickly dialed Carter, anxious to know if they’d caught Madeline yet.

She called twice, but no one picked up. Sweat broke out on her palms as worry started to creep in. Something could have gone wrong, but she told herself maybe there just wasn’t good service up in the mountains.

Meanwhile, Shelly sat in her study, face unreadable. Two of the family elders stood quietly before her.

After a moment, Shelly broke the silence. “The banquet will go on as normal tomorrow. I need you both to take care of something for me...”

The two elders nodded without hesitation. “Yes, ma’am. We’ll take care of it right away.”

“Go on.” Shelly’s eyes narrowed. Claire had claimed Mme. Ballard’s title for herself, but tomorrow, Shelly planned to take it back with her own hands.
