Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 591

Julian’s fingers traced softly along her cheek as he leaned in, his presence so close it made her breath catch. Out of nowhere, Brenda’s warning echoed in Madeline’s mind.

What if you get pregnant?

Heat rose to her face. As Julian moved in to kiss her, Madeline’s nerves snapped. She quickly drew her knee up and, before he could react, planted her foot right in his stomach. He stumbled, completely unprepared, and tumbled right off the sofa.

Madeline’s heart raced as she scrambled up, eyes wide. “I’m sleeping with Noah and Oliver tonight. You’ll have to sleep alone.” She threw the words out, a little too fast.

Julian blinked, looking completely lost, like someone had just flipped a switch and left him in the dark. All he could think was, Did I mess up somehow? “Madeline?”

But she was already halfway to the door, practically running out.

Julian picked himself up, rubbing his side, a deep frown settling on his face. He looked more baffled than angry, his usual confidence nowhere to be found.

Madeline wasn’t in the mood to go out anymore. She ordered room service and sat through dinner, barely tasting her food. Julian kept glancing at her, trying to read her expression, worried she might really make him sleep out in the hallway tonight.

After eating, Madeline headed straight for the kids’ room. “Noah, Oliver, I’m sleeping with you boys tonight.” The twins lit up, scooting over and making plenty of room for her on the bed.

Julian appeared in the doorway, looking so pitiful that Madeline almost laughed. He reminded her of a puppy left out in the rain.

“Noah, turn off the lights. Oliver, shut the door,” she said. The boys scrambled into action, the room plunging into darkness within seconds.

“Goodnight, Mommy.”

“Goodnight, sweethearts.” She closed her eyes, but Brenda’s words wouldn’t leave her head. What if I’m pregnant? Her heart hammered against her ribs. If it happened, she had no idea what she’d do.

Cuddled up with her two warm little boys, Madeline finally drifted off. Julian, though, was nowhere near sleep. Smoke hung heavy in the study as he sat by himself, replaying the night. What did I do wrong this time? Things were finally starting to get better between them, and now she was shutting him out again. Maybe she was still upset about last night, he thought. Maybe she was mad he hadn’t told her everything.

With a sigh, Julian crushed out his cigarette and headed to the kids’ room. He found Madeline asleep, tucked between the twins. For a moment, he just watched her, something soft flickering in his eyes. Then he gently scooted the boys aside and scooped Madeline into his arms.
