Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 490

Madeline had always dealt with more than her fair share of trouble. Since she was little, her world had been full of secrets and people with hidden agendas. Julian understood that kind of life. After his father died, the rest of the Grayson family circled like vultures, everyone wanting to take over.

But Julian’s grandfather had stepped in. He’d kept everyone in check and kicked out anyone who posed a threat, all to protect Julian when he was just a kid.

Julian had clawed his way to where he was, but he hadn’t done it alone. Christian had always had his back.

He and Madeline weren’t what you’d call lucky. Julian didn’t really care what happened to him, but it pained him to think of everything Madeline had gone through.

He pulled her close and settled her on his lap. “Still looking for your mom?”

Madeline nodded. “Yeah, but I’ve got nothing. I don’t even know where to start.”

How do you find someone who’s disappeared without a trace? Someone who might not even be alive anymore?

“When we get back, I’ll help you,” Julian said. “You said your mom was mysterious and left you a lot of money. And now someone’s after your fortune. I’d bet anything that’s connected to your mom.”

Madeline’s eyes flickered with realization. He was right.

She’d made some money on her own, but nothing that would make people jealous. Her mom, though, had been something else entirely. Whoever was after her probably wanted whatever her mother had left behind.

She just hadn’t figured out what that was yet.

“It’s late. You should try to get some sleep,” Julian said, reaching up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.

Madeline glanced down, suddenly aware of how she was sitting on his lap. She jumped up and moved away, putting space between them.

Julian saw her reaction and just grinned.

Madeline cleared her throat. “You’re not planning to sleep here tonight, are you?”
