Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 451

A whole week passed without incident. Madeline went to see Julian for his treatments every three days, just like clockwork. In that time, Lucy started looking at Madeline with growing approval, sometimes even pulling her aside for a chat. Madeline wasn’t the kind to nurse old grudges. If someone treated her kindly, she wouldn’t keep shutting them out over things that happened in the past.

Helene, on the other hand, had been unusually quiet all week. It was so out of character that Madeline, who had always kept her guard up around her, even found it strange. Still, Madeline knew exactly what Helene was like. As long as she was alive, she would find some way to stir up trouble. If Helene was quiet, she was probably just waiting to make her next move.

At the Grayson estate, Helene finally showed up after weeks away, wearing a simple and neat outfit. Stepping through the doors, she was hit by memories from two months ago. The pain of that time ran so deep it made her shudder.

“Ms. Fortner, Mr. Grayson will see you now,” a staff announced, holding the door open. Helene gave a small nod and said, “Alright, thank you.”

The staff stared for a second, surprised. Helene had always acted superior, never bothering with pleasantries toward the staff. Saying thank you was something new for her. Maybe she really had changed after everything that happened.

Christian sat in the living room, waiting. Helene walked over and, before he could say a word, dropped to her knees right in front of him.

He glanced at her, his voice cool. “What are you doing?”

“Mr. Grayson, I’m here to apologize,” Helene said.

He didn’t reply.

“What happened that day was my fault. I rushed things, I didn’t listen to you, and it put Julian in danger. I’m really sorry. Please, Christian, forgive me.”

Her eyes were red and she looked heartbreakingly fragile, like she might collapse at any moment. Two months of punishment had left her even thinner than before.

Christian frowned, studying her. “You’re not angry?”

After what Julian had put her through, he didn’t buy it for a second that she could still be this calm.

“I am. But I brought this on myself,” Helene admitted quietly. “I’m angry at Julian for being so cold, but I’m even angrier at myself for not listening to you. I was so blinded by how much I hated Madeline, I couldn’t think straight. But I swear, I never meant to hurt Julian.”
