Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 445

Madeline raised an eyebrow. “A leather suitcase? I’ve never seen one.”

Her grandmother fixed her with a steady gaze, searching her face for any sign of a lie. “Madeline, are you really sure you’ve never seen it?”

“I haven’t.” Madeline’s voice was firm. Everything her mother had left behind had ended up with the Monroe family. She’d only been a teenager then, completely unprepared to go up against Drew and Kate, who were both so sly and ruthless. She never got her hands on a single thing.

Her grandmother’s expression shifted and she let out a long sigh. “That’s odd.”

“What was in the suitcase? Was it important?”

Her grandmother shook her head, her tone uncertain. “I don’t really know. It just popped into my mind, so I thought I’d ask you.”

Madeline pressed her lips together, thinking. She honestly had no idea what her mother had left behind, just that everyone in the Monroe family seemed obsessed with finding it.

As for the leather suitcase, if it never made it to the Monroe family and she’d never seen it either, then maybe her mother had hidden it somewhere else. But why? What could possibly be inside?

She tucked the thought away, making a mental note to stay alert.

As Madeline left the Monroe house, she bumped right into Drew and Kate, who were coming back from outside. Drew shot her that same look he always did, like she was some kind of enemy.

Madeline almost laughed at the absurdity. Sometimes, she honestly doubted she was even Drew’s biological daughter. If she really was, why did he treat her so differently from Raine?

There was a time when Madeline would’ve blamed herself, wondering if she’d done something wrong. But not anymore. She knew now that, in his eyes, she could do nothing right.

She pulled herself out of her thoughts, ignored them completely, got in her car, and headed to work.

After a busy day at the office, Madeline came home a little after five. To her surprise, Lucy was waiting at her door.

“Mrs. Grayson?” Madeline’s eyebrows shot up.

Lucy nodded. “Hello.”
