Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 384

Christian noticed the guests whispering to each other, his brows knitting together. “What’s going on? What are they talking about?”

“I’ll go find out,” George said, already heading off.

Suddenly, someone called out, “Ms. Fortner is coming down!”

Everyone turned their attention to the staircase on the right. Helene appeared, flanked by Bill and Courtney. She was dressed in a stunning white gown, the fit so perfect it highlighted her slim, graceful figure. Her makeup was flawless, every detail enhancing her delicate features. She looked gentle and elegant, her smile calm and poised, every step radiating confidence.

Helene had grown up surrounded by wealth and privilege, attending events like this since she was a child. She knew exactly how to put her best foot forward, and she was doing it now. Christian’s stern face finally relaxed into a pleased smile.

“It’s Ms. Fortner. She’s gorgeous.”

“No surprise there. You can just tell she’s from a powerful family. Her presence is on a different level.”

Helene’s arrival seemed to reassure her side of the room. Her guests straightened up and shot smug looks at the guests across the way. One of them spoke up, loud enough for everyone to hear.

“See? Ms. Fortner is here. Isn’t it obvious? This is her engagement party with Mr. Grayson. You all must have gotten the wrong invite. Better leave before someone asks you to.”

“Exactly. Not everyone gets to be here for Mr. Grayson and Ms. Fortner’s engagement. You’d better go, or you might get shown the door.”

Madeline’s guests fell silent, glancing at one another, unsure of what to say.

“This is embarrassing,” Drew muttered, shaking his head. “I knew Madeline couldn’t have booked such a fancy place just for a birthday. Is she really planning to crash the party with all her guests?”

Kate stood nearby, her eyes locked on Helene. Because of what happened to Raine, she couldn’t stand Helene. Watching her soak up all the attention, acting like she owned the place, made Kate think of Raine, who was stuck in prison. She clenched her jaw, hate flickering in her eyes.

Helene, meanwhile, was loving every second of the spotlight.

But then, something shifted. On the opposite staircase, a lady slowly made her way down, one hand lifting the hem of her dress. She wore a silver strapless gown that hugged her tall, slender frame, the fabric shimmering under the lights. Her skin was smooth and luminous. She’d pinned up her long hair, and a sparkling necklace rested against her collarbone, catching the glow from above. She looked calm and elegant, her beauty so striking it was hard to look away.
