“No, not Noah. Madeline, Julian and Helene’s engagement party is being held in this exact ballroom. Your birthday party and their engagement party are happening in the same place.”

Brenda stared in disbelief, struggling to process what she just heard.

All the guests were already downstairs. One group was here for a birthday, the other for an engagement. There was no way both events could use the same venue. Someone was about to be left out in the cold.

“Okay, but who booked this ballroom first? And who did all the decorations?”

Madeline answered, “I booked it. Casey’s team handled the decorating.”

“So Helene’s plan is to steal your ballroom, make you watch her marry Julian, and let you get kicked out with nowhere to go?”

“That’s right.”

Brenda almost swore out loud. Helene was something else.

This was more than petty. It was ice cold. She wanted to use the ballroom Madeline had worked so hard on, marry Madeline’s ex right there, and then kick Madeline out for everyone to see.

“So what now? Madeline, if Helene’s pulling this off, she must have already sorted things out with the hotel. She’s got the Grayson family behind her, and the hotel’s not going to risk offending them.”
