Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 45

After the words were out, Helena realized her mistake and looked at Liliana, worried.

But Liliana was calm.

She picked up her paper cup and took a slow sip of hot water. "I guess I was pretty lucky, then," she said with a small smile.

"Liliana…"

Helena's heart clenched. Something was very wrong with Liliana's state of mind.

"Are you really okay? Maybe you should see a doctor?"

Liliana just shook her head.

For so many years, whenever Linton had to choose between her and Isabella, he had always chosen Isabella without hesitation.

Liliana was used to it.

She used to be furious about it. She would scream and cry, demanding an answer. "Why can't you choose me first, just once? Do you always have to favor your sister?"

"Just one time! Can't you be on my side just once?!"

And Linton would always look at her with that serious expression, his voice cool as he explained, over and over again, "Liliana, Isabella's parents did our family a great service."

"We can't be ungrateful. Without her parents, the Cooper family wouldn't be where it is today."

"You have to understand."

Liliana didn't understand. She didn't want to understand. To this day, she still couldn't fathom what kind of debt would make him so devoted to an adopted sister with whom he shared no blood, a sister who was more important than his own fiancée.

But it didn't matter anymore.

Liliana lowered her gaze, feeling a sense of peace she had never known before. It was so profound it was almost unbelievable.

It was only when she truly decided to let go that Liliana realized something. Letting go of years of sunk costs, choosing to free herself, wasn't as hard as she had imagined.
