Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 38

Her eyes flew open, her weak, distant voice now laced with panic.

“Did you see the report?”

“Not yet.” Linton slowly lowered his gaze, his handsome face betraying no emotion. His voice was cool. “I was just about to look at it.”

“You can’t!” Liliana tried to sit up, her face growing even paler with desperation.

Linton reached out to support her, a smirk playing on his lips. “What are you so agitated about? It’s just a check-up report. Am I not allowed to see it?”

“Since we were kids, what about you haven’t I seen?” The searing heat of Linton’s fingertips brushed against the delicate skin of her cheek. He rubbed his thumb back and forth in a slow, ambiguous motion, his gesture laden with unspoken meaning.

He watched her reaction closely, his eyes intense and searching. “Unless,” he purred, “there’s something in this report you don’t want me to see.”

Liliana’s heart clenched. It hammered against her ribs, rising into her throat. Her lips trembled. She didn't dare speak, didn't dare breathe too loudly. She was too afraid to meet the gaze of the man sitting beside her, his presence utterly overwhelming.

Linton acted as if he hadn't noticed her panic. The next second, the refined, cool man laughed as if it were all a joke. “It’s not like you're actually pregnant and trying to hide it from me, is it?”

“In that case, I absolutely have to see it.”

“Wait!” Liliana grabbed his arm, her expression turning frigid.

“A medical report is my personal, private information. Who do you think you are to me? What right do you have to look at it?”

Linton froze, then let out a humorless, angry laugh. “Who am I to you? Liliana, did the fever fry your brain? I’m your fiancé. Looking at your medical report is my right.”

“A fiancé isn't a husband,” she retorted, her grip on his large, warm hand tightening. Her tone became more forceful. “I said no, and I mean no.”
