The man’s gaze was cold and indifferent; he didn’t spare Danielle so much as a glance.
As soon as Mr. Gaylord spotted Alexander, his face lit up with an obsequious smile. “Mr. Davidson, so good to see you!”
Alexander offered a polite, restrained smile. “Allow me to introduce Millie—Miss Fletcher. She’s a top talent in aerospace, fully capable of leading her own research and heading design projects.”
There was no mistaking his intent: Alexander was here to back Millie and help her make connections, even if it meant poaching talent right in front of Danielle.
After all, Newsworld had already reached the top of the industry. When it came to partnerships or investments, people lined up for a shot—there was no reason for Alexander to come in person unless he had an agenda.
Clearly, he was introducing Millie to all the right people—right in front of Danielle, with no regard for her pride or dignity.
“Mr. Gaylord, hello.” Millie glanced at Danielle, her lips curving in a perfunctory smile before she looked away. “Ninesky is just getting started—not exactly a first-tier company yet. There’s risk in any collaboration.”
“Ninesky needs to climb a little higher. At the very least, when their recruitment process stops relying on backdoor connections, that’ll be a sign they’re finally making progress.”
Ninesky had rejected her for Danielle’s sake—a reckless, shortsighted move, putting personal interests above the company’s wellbeing.
Millie’s smile sharpened as she turned to Ablitt. “I’m here on behalf of Intellectech. I’d like to discuss some potential partnership details with you.”
Intellectech had become one of the hottest new names in AI, making waves in the field.
The moment Ablitt saw Millie, his eyes brightened; the subtle chill in his demeanor thawed at once. He reached out with a welcoming handshake. “Of course, Miss Fletcher—if you have any questions, ask away. With Mr. Davidson’s recommendation, I have no doubt about your capabilities.”
Then, with a frosty glance at Danielle—who was obviously frowning—Ablitt added, “Miss Fletcher is the only one I’m interested in working with.”
Just moments ago, he’d claimed their company’s schedule was packed. Now, he was all too willing to have a detailed conversation with Millie.
It couldn’t have been more blatant: he had no intention of working with Danielle’s team, not even bothering to pretend otherwise.
And Alexander, by bringing Millie here, had trampled all over Danielle’s pride and self-respect—backing Millie right under her nose, leaving her no room to protest.
