The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 197

Danielle had never truly stepped into the professional world. She'd always been a housewife—her academic credentials barely relevant, her talents wasted no matter how many opportunities were thrown her way.

"Just look at her," someone sniffed. "She really thinks she can make it in this field, climb the ladder? That's pure fantasy."

She had no idea how tough the real world could be, let alone how high the bar was set in this industry. Every academic paper was a battle, every publication a badge of honor. Danielle, they wagered, probably couldn't even follow the argument in a research paper.

Millie smirked. "Don't be so quick to judge. Maybe Miss Crawford has other reasons for being here—maybe she's not even interested in this business."

There was a sly note in her voice. "Or maybe she's just here for a meal, nothing more."

Liam just shrugged, a dry smile touching his lips. "Who knows?"

Millie pressed her lips together and glanced at Alexander. "Speaking of work—when I first got back, I had a few papers that needed a mentor's guidance. My first meetings with Mr. Hawthorne didn't go so well."

"No worries," Alexander replied, lighting a cigarette. He flicked the ash, his tone unreadable.

"A real gem shines under pressure," he said, locking eyes with Millie. "There's an industry summit next week, backed by the government. Come with me."

Millie lowered her gaze, the corners of her mouth curving into a subtle smile.

See? In his eyes, she was always the priority.

"Millie's talent makes finding a mentor here easy enough," Liam said with genuine praise.

A top-tier student in science and engineering was rare enough, but a woman at that level—almost unheard of.

Millie was already a standout in her field. With Alexander's support and introductions, her rise was practically guaranteed.

Millie laughed. "Alright, enough with the flattery."

Alexander stubbed out his cigarette, his face cool and distant. "Ninesky's been busy lately, landing project after project. They've been talking with the government. When you met Mr. Hawthorne, what was it about?"

He left the question hanging.
