The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 185

The elderly lady shot Alexander a reproachful look. "Didn't you hear Niki calling you?"

"I heard her," Alexander replied, his tone calm. "Let me take you home first."

She turned to Danielle. "Dani, I'll come by again tomorrow to see Niki."

Danielle shook her head. "That's not necessary, Grandma. Niki's fine—please don't trouble yourself."

The old woman gazed at Danielle with a heart full of affection and worry. Danielle had always been considerate, sensible, never one to compete or argue. It was that very gentleness that made her grandmother worry all the more. She was always concerned about whether Danielle's marriage was truly happy.

She called for her own driver rather than let Alexander take her—after all, his hand was still healing. Though he was recovering, he wasn't back to normal yet.

As she was about to leave, she fixed Alexander with a look. "Take good care of your wife. And what's really going on between you two?"

"Nothing," Alexander answered, meeting her gaze. "We're fine."

Her skepticism was plain. "I hope so." She hesitated, then sighed. "After this, Dani probably won't trust me to take care of Niki anymore. What happened—how were you looking after the child?"

Alexander said, "Niki's your great-granddaughter. You're welcome to see her whenever you wish."

The old woman gave a weary sigh, then climbed into the car and left.

Danielle had no idea when Alexander and the others left—he never told her where he was going, never felt the need to check in, especially now that they were divorcing. There was no reason for him to keep her in the loop.

She couldn't help but find it all a little ironic. Even when their daughter was hurt, Alexander remained distant and unconcerned.

Really, she owed Millie her thanks. If it weren't for Millie, the divorce might still be nowhere in sight.

But none of that mattered anymore.

What mattered was that the end was finally here.

Early Saturday morning, Alexander took a call from the Legal Department at Newsworld.

"Mr. Davidson, we have a personal appeal document here for you—not company business. Would you like to review it?"
