Everyone had been grinding through the project for weeks now—no one was getting much rest, working late into the night, barely catching their breath.
So the company retreat was just a chance for everyone to finally relax a little.
After the meeting ended, Danielle got a call from her mother.
Her mom wanted her to set up a meeting with Alexander to discuss the details of the investment project.
Once investors put money in, the team would hand over the detailed follow-up plan and coordinate directly with them.
As soon as Danielle hung up, she found Alexander's number in her blocked contacts and unblocked him, then dialed.
It rang for a long time before he finally picked up.
"What is it?" His voice was as cool and distant as ever.
Danielle was used to it. She got straight to the point: "Are you free tomorrow? My mom wants to meet and go over the investment details."
Alexander didn't hesitate. "I'm busy. Let's talk another time."
Danielle frowned, about to ask when he'd actually be available, maybe set a specific date.
But before she could speak, a woman's voice came through the phone.
"Alex, the bath's ready! Are you coming?"
He answered, "Yeah."
Then the call cut off with a beep—he'd hung up.
Danielle stared at her phone, tightening her grip subconsciously.
Were they... taking a bath together?
She let out a short, bitter laugh.
No wonder he'd seemed so cold and uninterested—she'd interrupted their little romantic moment.
Of course. This was prime time for couples to cozy up together.
She forwarded Alexander's number to her mother, telling her to call him directly and set up the meeting.
