Lila smiled at herself in the mirror as she smoothed down the soft fabrics of her dress. She was about to host a party for all of her supporters to show them how much she appreciates them.

“Miss Lila, you look stunning,” Olivia, one of her head supporters, cooed from behind her. “Everybody is going to love you.”

“I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without you, Olivia,” Lila said, turning to face her new friend. “You’ve rallied so much of the pack behind me, and for that, I thank you.”

Olivia blushed.

“I don’t want that orphan to be our Luna. She’ll make a terrible Luna. She wasn’t trained for it, and she’ll be the downfall of this pack,” Olivia said with a scowl, folding her arms across her chest. “I only want what’s best for our pack, and you are what’s best. Now that your family is out of hiding, I want to make you way more known.”

Lila smiled even wider as she put her hand on Olivia’s shoulder.

“You are too kind,” Lila said gently before pulling her hand away. “I truly do appreciate you, Olivia. Your friends are also very kind, and their efforts are appreciated. Pretty soon, Gavin will see that I’m the perfect match for him, and he’ll drop Judy. He cares about this pack more than anything and always has. Once he sees that I’m a better Luna, he’ll leave her and come straight to me.”

Both girls laughed.

“We should get to the party then,” Olivia said. “Your guests are all waiting for the woman of the hour.”

Lila’s cheeks reddened, and an eagerness filled her chest, though she kept it hidden as she stepped towards the door that led to the party room. Her brothers were already there, not believing that their sister wasn’t really their sister.

As she rounded the corner, she paused when she saw a familiar face.

Daisy Baldwin was serving drinks on platters, wearing nothing but a collar around her neck and Lila’s chest tightened for a moment. Daisy didn’t look like herself; she was thinner, her hair was messy, and her makeup was smudged on her face. On top of all that, she was completely naked.

Then again, nudity really didn’t matter in the werewolf community, but in this context, it was still strange. Noah stood off in the distance with his own drink in hand and his arm wrapped around a pretty redhead.

Lila knew that it was killing Daisy to see him with another woman.

Brushing the thought out of her mind, Lila turned to her future pack and brightened her smile.

It was show time.

Judy’s POV

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Nan asked after we finished getting ready. We were about to go to Lila’s party in the neutral territory.

“At this point, I’m not really sure about anything,” I admit. “But regardless, this is my pack, and I can’t let her win.”

Nan nodded and put a hand on my shoulder, squeezing it tightly.

“You are going to be an amazing Luna, Judy,” she told me, a soft smile playing on her lips. She knew of my anxieties when it came to being a Luna, and I’m still not sure if she’s right… But for once, I actually believed that maybe I could be a great Luna.

I cared so much about Gavin and his territory… I cared about the people around here. I wanted to protect those I cared about; that was the point of my becoming a gamma. Maybe being a Luna was two in the same.

“Thanks, Nan,” I said, wrapping an arm around her. “You’re a really good friend.”

She smiled at me and nudged my shoulder with hers.

“I’m the best. And don’t you forget it,” she teased.

“Never,” I said with a smile. “Sorry for pulling you away from your restaurant again.”

“It’s completely fine; I just hired a new closer, so I don’t need to be there tonight, and Chester’s on standby in case anything happens. I’m just glad your parents were able to watch Emalyn on such short notice.”

“You know they love that little girl,” I told her with a laugh. “They think of her as their granddaughter. You were practically one of their children, too.”

Nan blushed.

A knock on the door brought our attention to the doorway, and my mother stood before us. She was staring between the two of us with a hesitant smile.

“You girls look beautiful,” my mother said, tears filling her eyes. “Sorry, I’m just feeling a little emotional. Nan, do you mind if I speak to Judy alone before you girls leave?”

“Of course,” Nan said before turning back to me. “I’ll see you downstairs.”

I nodded as she turned and left, leaving me alone with my mom. I hadn’t had the chance to talk to her after our argument last night, and I still felt so guilty for how I reacted. I know my mom and dad love me; that’s never been a question. I should have given them the benefit of the doubt because they wouldn’t do anything to hurt me…at least not on purpose.

“I’m so sorry, Judy,” my mom said before I had the chance to speak. “I should have told you the truth. Keeping it from you wasn’t right, but most importantly, I shouldn’t have let Meg convince me to look the other way when you were switched at birth. We never really understood what happened, but Meg could sense the magic that still clung to you even after they took your powers. We knew it was selfish, but we wanted to keep you safe. To Meg, you might have been used as a decoy, but to us, you’ve always been our daughter, and we would never trade you for anything.”

Tears swirled in my eyes as I wrapped my arms around her.

“I love you, Mom,” I whispered. “I’m so sorry for doubting you… I just hated the idea of being used as a decoy to hide another baby… one you were trying to protect. At the expense of another family.”

She wrapped me in her arms and held me a bit tighter.

“Oh, sweetie, I know how it must make us look. I never truly forgave myself for taking a daughter away from her mother. But your father and. I never thought of you as a decoy, despite everything. You’ll always be our daughter, no matter what. I don’t care if you are a Blackwell, or a Churchill, or a Landry… you will always be a Montague.” She kissed the side of my face. “Don’t ever forget that.”

I hug her tighter.

“I never will,” I assured her before I pulled away. I wiped the tears beneath my eyes and smiled at her. “I have to go… I have a pack to win over.”

My mother squeezed my hand.

“Judy, you are going to make a great Luna. Soon, the pack will see that as well,” my mother said, a small smile forming on her lips. “And if you can’t win them this time, there’s always next time. You have so many already in your corner. You don’t need to worry about a thing. It’ll work

out.”

My heart swelled at her words, and Like Nan earlier, I believe her. I felt more confident going to this party.

I hugged my mother one last time before I left and went downstairs to join Nan, Irene, and Gavin.

Nan and Irene had invitations that included plus ones… which is why they are both attending with Gavin and me, because neither of us was invited to Lila’s party; shocker.

“Ready to go?” Nan asked.

“As ready as we’ll ever be,” Irene said, sounding as thrilled as I felt.

On that note, we left my parents’ home and got into the back of the limo; Erik was the driver, and when Irene saw him, she tensed beside me. I looked over at her, wondering if she was okay, but she was looking down at her hands, her cheeks red.

I made a mental note to talk to her later.

When we reached the party, my heart started to hammer even wilder against my chest. There were so many people, and a majority of them I recognized from around the pack. Erik pulled up towards the front and parked the limo.

“Is there anything else you need from me, Alpha?” he asked, peering at Gavin through the rear- view mirror.

“Just stay with the limo and keep your phone with you. I’ll text you when it’s time for us to leave,” Gavin told him.

Erik nodded, then got out of the limo and walked around to open our doors. Gavin took hold of my hand and helped me out of the limo. Nan and Irene followed after, both looking gorgeous in their dresses and hair done. Irene was the one who helped both Nan and me with our hair, so neither of us looked out of place.
