Max finished with the document in his hands, placed it aside, and leaned back in his chair. His dark eyes fixed on her, radiating an invisible but immense pressure.
Dannie lowered her gaze, waiting for Max to question her.
"Why did you choose to come to BlueMarble Investments in the first place?" Max asked, his tone devoid of emotion.
Dannie slowly looked up. "I wanted more room to grow professionally. Working for you, Mr. Hawthorne, is both an honor and a challenge, and I enjoy taking on challenges."
Since she had started, she had completed every task flawlessly, performing just as well as Felicia had when she worked for him.
So, in terms of her work, Max had no complaints.
"If you had to choose between Roen Capital and BlueMarble Investments, which would you pick?"
Dannie met his eyes, her heart seizing in her chest. She fought to remain calm and composed. "Mr. Hawthorne, I work for BlueMarble Investments now, and my loyalty is undivided."
Max's eyes narrowed, his voice dropping. "Answer my question."
Dannie's fingertips curled into her palm. "I would still choose BlueMarble Investments."
"Why?" Max pressed.
Dannie felt the air in the room solidify. She could almost hear her own heart pounding. Taking a quiet breath, she said, "As long as Evelyn is at Roen Capital, I would not choose Roen Capital."
The office fell silent.
Max tapped his index finger on the armrest. "So you're afraid of being overshadowed?"
Dannie said, "It's not about being overshadowed. We are simply not destined to work face to face in the same company."
Max let out a low, cold laugh that sent a shiver down one's spine. "Dannie, you're far too arrogant. You think so highly of yourself, yet you only resort to these underhanded tricks."
