Chapter 260
ONE WEEK LATER
LYRIC
My pulse hammered like a warning bell, ringing through my ears.
My hands were clammy with sweat. It didn’t matter how many times I wiped them on my dress.
I didn’t think I’d have a reason to be this scared again. Perhaps ‘scared‘ wasn’t the right word to use. You could say I was the most nervous I’ve ever been.
I stood at the doorway, my eyes on Jaris, who was seated on the bed with the kids. I didn’t know why he insisted on going ahead with this. I tried to convince him we could keep the truth from the kids for now and reveal it to them when they come of age.
“I don’t want to overwhelm them at this tender age.” That was my excuse.
But deep down, I knew that was a lie. I wanted the kids to know. I was just scared they might have a hard time accepting me as their mother.
I’ve been rejected so many times that I now fear my own What if they prefer Marta to be their mother?

Gods, there were a lot of what–ifs. Jaris must know this, which is why he’s insisted on telling them about it. And now, here we were.
“Will you promise to be good when I reveal what I’m about to?” He calmly asked.
“We promise, Daddy! I don’t know about Xylon, but I will!”
I failed to suppress a smile. Xyla. Always the dramatic one.
I took a deep breath. How was Jaris bold enough to do this?
“Yesterday, you asked about your mum. I’m not sorry to say this, but you won’t be seeing her for a long time.”
Their countenance dropped.
Four days ago, Jaris had me punish Marta. He made her lose the very thing she had been scared of–her identity.
I siphoned her memories, leaving her completely blank and oblivious of who she was.
I could never forget the confused look in her eyes when she woke up the next morning.
“Who are you? Do you know my name?”
She was totally clueless and scared.
If it had been someone else, I’d have felt bad for them. But then, it was Marta. The girl has been pure evil from day one. She’s killed a lot of people, almost killed Jace—of which she ended up killing his innocent staff–she set me up more times than I could count. Not to mention how she took my kids for her own sick purposes.
People like her were never satisfied with power. She’d have always wanted more until she destroyed everyone around her.
“Marta wasn’t a good woman. When you come og age, you’ll know better. But for now, you need to know she was never your mother.”
Xyla’s face paled. Her eyes rounded and reflected with shock, and they looked like she was about to deny it.
But for Xylon, it was confusing when he didn’t seem shocked. He simply shifted his gaze to me.

Jaris continued. “Marta took you from your original mother when you were newly born. Until a week ago, we didn’t know about this
“Mummy didn’t give birth to us17” Xyla gasped. “Who is our mother, then?”
A stampede of anxiety erupted in my chest. It was getting harder by the second to breathe properly.
Jaris slowly turned to me, directing the kids‘ attention. “That’s your mother.”
Well, let’s just say it went a lot easier than I thought it wou explaining things to them, they burst into excitement.

They might be too young to understand the gravity of the situation, but it didn’t stop them from being overly excited. Xyla said she was beyond ready to have a new mum. She said it like it was something that had been ordered for her.

Without doubt, he was going to be a very powerful Alpha in the future; more powerful than even his father, perhaps. I couldn’t wait to see him grow.
This was it. This was what I prayed for when I made wishes. This was the image I had when I dreamt.
My kids and I being reunited….it was the best feeling in the whole wide world.

Her phone beeped with a text.
“We’re ready, Princess.”

She figured she must not have heard him come in as her door had been left open.
Nerion’s deep blue eyes lowered to Maddy’s last luggage in her hand. Slowly, they went up to her tear–streaked face.
“You really want to do this?”
Maddy hesitated, contemplating whether she owed him a conversation. She and Nerion were still not still a mystery to her.

“I know! But it doesn’t change the fact that this family is messed up! My little niece who I love so much turned out to be a Siphon who killed my mother. My brothers hated each other so much that one eventually killed the other.” Her voice cracked. “I watched it happen. I begged him not to, but he didn’t

Sniffling, she wiped her face. “While I don’t exactly blame Jaris for what he did, I can’t get over the fact that we’re fucked in the head. From my motkac me. The Dreadnioors have always been fucked.”
She rolled her luggage to the door, getting past Maddy.
