Dante must have noticed her interest in coffee during those visits and decided on this gift. She had to admit, Dante had excellent taste; she really liked it.
She carefully set the pot down and opened the next gift box. It was a cashmere shawl from Letty, its soft, light gray fabric exquisitely embroidered with a subtle, dark pattern. It was both elegant and practical.
The card read: [Leilani, happy birthday! The weather is getting cold, and I wasn't sure what you'd like, so I chose this for you. No matter how busy you are with work, remember to take care of yourself.]
Those simple words made Leilani’s nose tingle.
The last box was from Judie. It contained a limited-edition facsimile of an ancient medical text, the very version Leilani had seen at an auction recently but failed to win.
“Whoa!” Yvonne exclaimed. “Isn’t this the book you wanted so badly a while back? Judie knows you so well! That sneaky woman, when I asked her what she was getting you, she said she had no idea. I can’t believe she was secretly outdoing me.”
Leilani opened the book, the fresh scent of paper wafting up to her. She couldn't help but smile, feeling deeply moved. She’d lost count of how many times she’d been touched today. Judie always seemed so carefree, but she was incredibly thoughtful.
Sunlight filled the living room, illuminating the pile of gifts on the table. Leilani sat on the sofa, looking at everything before her, a warm feeling filling her chest. She had never imagined that her birthday would one day be celebrated with so many heartfelt presents. Each one had been chosen with her personal tastes in mind, a testament to how much each person cared. The realization left her with an indescribable feeling.
Yvonne rested her chin in her hands, watching her with a smile. “Are you happy, Leilani?”
Leilani nodded, her voice a little hoarse. “Yes, very happy.”
Yvonne blinked, reminding her, “And this is just the beginning! Who knows what surprise Mr. Langley has planned for you tonight.”
