The Prison-Made Queen novel Chapter 662

Callahan walked toward her, each step syncing with the beat of her heart. He stopped in front of her, got down on one knee, and pulled a small velvet box from his pocket. He opened it, revealing a diamond ring that shimmered under the starlight.

“Leilani,” he said, his voice low and more serious than she had ever heard it. “Will you marry me?”

For once, Callahan looked nervous as he watched her, terrified he might hear the word “no.”

Leilani looked down at him, her expression unreadable. “You… ignored me all day just to work on this?”

Callahan was speechless.

“Are you angry?” Her expression didn't exactly scream happiness.

Just as Callahan, assuming he’d been rejected, was about to dejectedly get up, Leilani burst out laughing.

Callahan froze. “What?”

“I never said I was rejecting you,” Leilani said. “Why are you getting up?”

It took him a moment, but then he realized: she was getting back at him for ignoring her all day. He wasn't sure if he should be annoyed or just relieved. But… if she wasn't rejecting him, that meant she was saying yes, right?

Callahan looked at her again, his expression earnest. “So, is your answer yes?”

Leilani turned her face away and gave a barely perceptible nod. It was a tiny movement, but Callahan didn't miss it. He saw it plain as day.

He stood up and pulled her into his arms. “You scared me to death. I really thought you weren’t going to marry me.”

He lowered his head, resting his forehead against hers. “I’ve been planning this proposal for a long time. I wanted it to be a surprise.” He paused. “And you had to go and scare me like that.”
